Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: lightdm
Version: 1.0.3-1
Severity: minor
Dear Maintainer,
This occurs when upgrading lightdm from 1.0.2-1 to 1.0.3-1.
user-session is set to lightdm-xsession that should pass default
as argument to /etc/X11/Xsession, but "(null)" argument is passed.
This can be seen in xsession-errors:
Xsession: unable to launch "(null)" X session --- "(null)" not found;
falling back to default session.
This has no visible drawback except when x11-utils is installed.
In such case, xmessage exposes the error message and the user has
to acknowledge it before allowing the (default) session to be launched.
Best regards
Pascal Dormeau

Yeah, I experienced that too, I didn't check what is the difference with
previous versions, but will try to investigate when I have time.

Hello.
I hope to have the solution.
The problem is in /usr/share/xsessions/lightdm-xsession.desktop.
The key "Exec=default" should be replaced for "Exec=startxfce4", for
example. Now, the default session will be XFCE.
For other window-managers I don't know the key value, but you can search
this value in another file *.desktop into /usr/share/xsessions/.

You seem to have misunderstood what this default session is about. If
you want to start Xfce, use the Xfce session. The default session is
used to run the user .xsession script. To do that, we just use the
default argument so /etc/X11/Xsession will default to use that. I didn't
yet investigate why we had that warning in recent lightdm version but
your workaround is unlikely to fix anything.

By the way, it seems fixed in 1.0.4-1, could you check and report back?

Hello Yves-Alexis,
I tested 1.0.6-1 version and the problem no more exists.
This bug can be closed now.

This bug still exists for me in version 1.0.6-1. I downloaded the
source package and compared the provided lightdm-xsession.desktop with
the one I have installed, and I'm up to date in that regard.

I didn't experience that on any of my boxes so it's unlikely to be the
same thing. Could you be a little more specific?
